Rodney L. Vogt, age 58, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from pancreatic cancer at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas, surrounded by his loved ones. Rodney was born on September 18, 1966, in Newton, Kansas, to Gerald and Arlene (Boese) Vogt. He graduated from Hesston High School in 1985 and went on to earn Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Finance from Kansas State University in 1989. He continued his education at Kansas State, earning a Master of Accountancy in 1991. On January 5, 1991, Rodney married Kari Marcy in Leoti, Kansas. In 2001, his family moved to Manhattan, where they raised their daughter Brooke. Rodney began his professional career at Koch Industries in Wichita and Bethel College in North Newton. In 2001, he joined the Department of Accounting at Kansas State University, where he served as an instructor for nearly 24 years. His latest job title was Senior Instructor. Rodney was deeply committed to his students and the profession, earning recognition as an Ernst and Young Teaching Fellow and receiving the Edgerley Outstanding Instructor Fellowship. He was also a Graduate Teaching Assistant Supervisor and coordinated undergraduate internships for accounting students. He was widely respected for his dedication to teaching and student success. Rodney maintained close ties to the professional and educational communities throughout his life. He was actively involved in the Manhattan High School CTE Business Advisory Board and, during his college years, was a member of Beta Alpha Psi. As an instructor, he continued to support and attend Beta Alpha Psi events, staying engaged with the next generation of business leaders. Beyond his professional life, Rodney found joy in fishing, hiking in the mountains, and, most of all, spending time with his family. Rodney will be remembered for his humor and dedication to his family, friends, and students. Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Kari, and their daughter, Brooke; his parents, Gerald and Arlene Vogt; and his two brothers, Scott (Amy) Vogt and Kerry (Becky) Vogt, all residing in Hesston, Kansas. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends who cherished his presence in their lives. A memorial service for Rodney's life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Grace Baptist Church in Manhattan, Kansas, with a reception to follow the service.
