Don Raymond Kirkendall

April 12, 1941 - March 14, 2026

Born in Swayze, IN, Don grew up on the family farm and attended Western High School in Russiaville. He attended Purdue University for his BPE (1963), MEd (1965), and PhD (1968) degrees.

Don was on the faculty in physical education and served as department head at the University of Kentucky (1968-1976), Kansas State University (1976-1986), and the State University of New York at Cortland (1986-2001). He published multiple articles and two textbooks. Don was an avid sports fan, had a keen interest in politics, and relished thoughtful, spirited conversations.

Don is survived by his wife, Judith (Ramsden) Kirkendall; children, Randahl and Melissa with Gloria (Clampitt) Kirkendall; grandchildren, Autumn and Forrest; and sister, Betty Albright. Known for his warmth and humor, Don is missed and lovingly remembered.
