Lucy F. Simms, went Home to be with her Lord & Savior, early Sunday morning, February 16, 2025. She was born on October 23, 1939, to parents Merrill Sr and Lillie Belle (Stanford) Crossley in Eufaula, Alabama

 

She married the Love of her life, Dewayne Simms on April 25, 1959, 40 years until his death on Nov. 9, 1999.

 

Lucy worked as an Accountant III in the Controller’s Office and College Administrative Building at Kansas State University from 1974 to 2005.

 

Her hobbies include fishing, gardening, spoiling her grands & great-grands. Lucy loved traveling to her grandchildren’s sporting & educational events; the Dennis-Stanford annual family reunions; and traveling to Ohio to see family and friends. She enjoyed shopping in the Mardel Christian bookstore and sharing the Word. She worked tirelessly at church functions and she could always be found cooking a delicious meal. We will ALL miss her daily scriptures & words of encouragement, what a ministry of love she shared with us.

 

Lucy is survived by her four children, Dewayne Simms Jr. (Wichita), Dawn Simms (Manhattan), DeAnna Simms-Noel (Topeka), Derrick (Jena) Simms (Wichita); eight grandchildren, Dominic and Breona Ward, Tiovon Noel, DeAndre Simms, Ra’chelle Vandermark, DaMare Simms, Deion Simms, Zu’mere Beard, Davin Simms; five great-grandchildren, Montae Simms, Mason Simms. DJ Ward, Journi Simms, Jru Ward; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

 

She was preceded in death by a son, Darryl Simms; a granddaughter, Brooke McCauley; and her siblings, Ellis Jones, John Crossley, Arthur (Dorothy) Crossley Sr, Robert (Emma) Crossley, Dorothy (James) Ishman, Joseph Crossley, Jerline Crossley, Merrill Crossley Jr, Wanda Hoskins (Charlie), Evelyn Nance, H. Eugene Jackson, Robert Simms

 

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen-Funeral Home with a graveside following the service at Sunrise Cemetery. A visitation will be prior to the service at 10:00 A.M.
