Glennis grew up on a dairy farm south of Pawnee Rock, Kansas and during her youth was active in 4-H showing her Holstein dairy cows.
After high school, Glennis attended college at Kansas State University where she obtained her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees. Later in life Glennis returned to school and obtained her PhD in Family and Consumer Economics from Oklahoma State University.
Glennis was a high school teacher in Larned and Clay Center, Kansas before moving to secondary education teaching at Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas. After obtaining her PhD, Glennis taught for five years at Clemson University before returning to Oklahoma State University. At OSU, Glennis taught in the College of Human Environmental Sciences as Cooperative Extension State Specialist in Financial Management, retiring as full professor in January 2001.
Glennis was united in Marriage to Harold Couchman in June of 1958 and to this union three children were born, two sons and a daughter. They raised their children in rural Clay County. The family was incredibly involved in the county 4-H and FFA programs. The marriage ended in 1980.
As her grandchildren were growing up, Glennis enjoyed assisting the kids with a variety of 4-H projects in Riley County especially preparing for the county fair in poultry, gardening and table setting.
As an adult, Glennis enjoyed traveling internationally with friends and family. She was especially proud of her trips with her grandkids to Germany, Italy, a Mediterranean cruise, Wales, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain - attending Running of the Bulls. Glennis enjoyed following college football and being a season ticket holder at her three beloved schools: Oklahoma State University, Clemson University and Kansas State University.
Glennis was preceded in death by her father and mother.
She is survived by brother Darrell (Kathi) Unruh of Littleton, Colorado, two sons: Larry (Carol) Couchman and Garry Couchman of Manhattan, Kansas, daughter Terry (Steve) Hodges of Des Moines, Iowa; grandkids: Andrew (Erin) Couchman, Leah (Jarrod) Sheldon, Benjamim (Rachel) Couchman, Sarah (Jason) Baker, all residing in Wamego, Kansas, also Matthew (Jayden) Couchman of Goddard, Kansas, Destini Warnke of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kaitlyn Hodges and JD Coker, Steven Hodges of Des Moines, Iowa; eleven great grandchildren reside in Wamego, Kansas, one in Batesville, Arkansas and two in Des Moines, Iowa. In addition, there is a niece and nephew, cousins, and dear friends.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. Sunday April 13, 2025, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00a.m. Monday April 14, 2025, at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
